Glycolic acid: read beyond the label.

Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid used in exfoliating products. A percentage alone cannot describe how an acid formula behaves on your skin.

What the name means

Glycolic acid is an AHA. Citric acid near the end of another product may be a pH adjuster, not evidence that it is a comparable exfoliating treatment.

Clinical context: FDA: alpha hydroxy acids. Ingredient research does not establish that every finished product delivers the same result.

What to check on your bottle

Look at the product purpose and directions as well as the ingredient. Concentration, pH and contact time affect an acid product; an INCI list does not supply them all.

Names recognized by Rhune

glycolic acid · acido glicolico · hydroxyacetic acid · ammonium glycolate

These are lookup terms from Rhune's catalog, including common names. They are not a list of clinically interchangeable products.

Before adding it to your routine

Do not treat a stronger peel as an ordinary daily serum. Follow directions, avoid piling on exfoliants, and take sun protection seriously.

What to track

Smoother surface texture is different from lifting a fold. Keep other routine changes limited if you want to understand what your skin tolerates.
