Ingredient field notes · Fine lines and uneven texture

Retinol: read beyond the label.

Retinol is a cosmetic retinoid. Its name on a bottle identifies an ingredient, not proof that the finished product will erase wrinkles.

What the name means

Retinol and prescription tretinoin belong to the same family, but are different ingredients. A label that says retinyl palmitate should not be read as retinol.

Clinical context: AAD: retinoids and retinol. Ingredient research does not establish that every finished product delivers the same result.

What to check on your bottle

Look for retinol itself, a stated concentration if provided, and packaging directions. Ingredient order cannot tell you the exact percentage or how much remains stable through use.

Names recognized by Rhune

retinol · vitamin a · all-trans retinol · retinol 10s · retinol 15d

These are lookup terms from Rhune's catalog, including common names. They are not a list of clinically interchangeable products.

Before adding it to your routine

Dryness and irritation can make a routine harder to maintain. Follow the product directions, introduce one active at a time, and use daily sun protection. Avoid retinoids during pregnancy.

What to track

A weekly photo can document appearance over time, but light and expression change how lines look. Hydration changes are not evidence of collagen growth.
